Riders - 4

Pillions - 1

Weather - Dry sunny, glorious

Miles - 87

Time, out 19:07 - back 21:50

Krozzy(CBF thou), Stuart McCrorie (GSXR750), John Burns (MV Brutale), Nick & Julie (VFR800)

Destination - Fleetwood (sort of)

Route - Mossy lea road to Eccy, left at bridge, right at petrol station back towards Leyland, onto Schleswig way (yes, that really is what it's called)around Leyland to Preston Dock road, Right heading for Inskip. Pick up A586 towards Fleetwood. Right onto A588 towards Knott End. B5270 into K.E. Esplanade. return via Cockerham to A6 south to M55 Junction M6 south split at J27.

Introductions - More new potentials Nick and Julie, mounted on the VFR 800, contact via the website (see, it does work) nice couple, enthusiastic about biking.

Ride - following brief route discussion, JB elected leader, led off from the BP setting a sane pace. The route sort of a "pararoute" (rather than paraphrase - same but different) of Nigel's Glasson route from a few weeks ago, but missing some of the more dodgy nadges and humps.

Riding in formation (dashed rare for the Owls) JB, Krozzy, Nick&Julie, with Stuart as tail gunner. Always a good route this, plenty of variation in road types enough whoops and airborne incidents for most (even Nigel) but enough sanity to take in the scenery as well. Sun just at that irritating height where no matter how you squint, it still blinds you if you ride towards it.

Tiring of the A586 A rolling route modification meeting (JB/K) turns us right over the Wyre estuary via Hambleton towards Knott End, (arrivadercci Fleetwood) another clue was the unusually large number of other bikes on the road. All thrash up the A588 to K.E. park up at the Cafe.

Although plenty bikes there, around 70/80 cafe not really busy (surprise....) perhaps they'd all beaten us to it, but with coffee at £1.20, bugger all choice of cakes and pop at £1/can suggest a healthy mark up being applied. (perhaps over the door - proprietors name "R Turpin" should have given us a clue). Coffee quality actually OK for take away stuff.

General chat outside reveals Nick & Julie had spent most of the day at Rivi sunbathing and chillin', jammy pair. All types of bikes at KE Wednesdays from restored old Japs/brits, Racers, Choppers, Cruisers & Ratters the only common factor being the average age - scarily high (Owls incl).

Coffee supped up, and most others gone home, we mount up and head, slightly, the wrong way home towards Cockerham, Nick did attempt, franticly flashing those HUGE VFR headlights, to turn us right toward Nateby, but too late, JB was on a mission. Still suppose in view of the now darkness probably better to stick to roads with no grass in the middle, there's always another day. JB leads us right at Cockerham back to A6, right to M55 junction, homeward via M6. Owls split at J27 for home.

Good run again, looking forward to longer nights (darkness now 21:00) so we could visit more exotic locations.

Suggestion for Bank Holiday Sunday Squires Cafe - Sherburn-in-Elmet (haaa!!... 'elmet, geddit?.....) - Yorkshire - any comments?

Cheers

Krozzy
